Poverty Alleviation, Spiritual and Community Enrichment

This Service Unit is basically the start of it all. This is where relationships are build, basic needs are addressed and necessary referrals are made.

Social Relief is provided to meet the most basic needs a person has in order to survive. These services are either linked to clients who are following their IDP within the programmes of MES (students attending training, children attending ECD programmes, female youth with babies on training programmes, elderly in need of home based care) or clients who are making use of MES’s services in order to survive on the streets. Social relief is then provided through feeding schemes, overnight shelters, disaster management and the distribution of clothing and blankets through outreaches and drop-in centres.

Spiritual Enrichment: In a hard and broken world we need to take care of our souls. The heartache and suffering of our clients is often unbearable and has a devastating effect on their lives. The healing of these wounds and the restoration of souls through fi nding dignity, respect, love and care is facilitated through care groups, pastoral care, room visits and counselling. Ministry workers in buildings/residential facilities are available in all areas of residential care within MES.
